My wife & I had our first child via an emergency c-section at the GCUH. Our child was born at 36 weeks and extremely small and had to spend a few days in special care. Our overall experience unfortunately was less than satisfactory. We are first time parents, we got told so much conflicting advice from every doctor, nurse and midwife we saw. They let my wife go without pain relief within the first 24 hours of surgery due to no doctor available to issue more pain relief. They stressed my wife out about breast feeding but no one took the time to show my wife how to breast feed. The ward was extremely cold too cold for our baby to regulate its temperature we had to use warm towels to keep our baby warm, but the warm towels were located 10 minutes away from my wife’s room. There was no after care, no real support. We were discharged from the hospital with a tiny little person but the advice we was given left us so confused and stressed and didn’t know who to ask for advise. No one reads patients notes so we had to explain everything to every new doctor, nurse, midwife that we saw. To make mattters worse we were told should we need any additional information it will be all in our “red book” the book had conflicting advice from the doctors just told us. We’re not going back to that hospital should we have any more kids.

It was really nice newish and big room and only for myself...but...staff was not very professional. I`ve been disappointed with there level of professionalism and experience. Also it was really cold in the room and I could not sleep at night , because every 30 min during the night somebody enter my room for: cleaning floor, bringing water, bringing food, checking my temperature, taking blood for the blood test, talking to me, etc. So, at 6 am another (5-th ) doctor arrived... I was the one doctor who can understand ( finally!) what`s wrong with me.
I was extremely happy to go home in the morning and finally had a proper sleep and rest.

Monkeys running the show. My mechanic could do a better job than the doctors/midwives/nurses here. Every single one of them advices you something different, then blames the patient for not knowing better.
Whenever we had a question (after they asked if we had any questions), they would beat around the bush and not answer the question or clarify any doubt.
If they'd like to be so rude, maybe chose a profession where they don't have to deal with people, respect them as a fellow human or empathise with them. Also, it's 2018, no need to be racist when half their own staff are non caucasian.

I have brought this experience up with higher authorities, not that my feedback would make a difference, but if you care for your loved ones well being, best go to a hospital in Brisbane; worth the drive if not an emergency.

Emergency department doctors and nurses are awesome, just the receptionists need to be taught manners.
Birthing ward nurses are average, the midwives met expectations.
Post birthing ward was the hospital version of cat vomit.

My experience was well over a week ago, and my opinion is still the same. I've been to over a dozen hospitals in 3 different countries, and sadly this was the worst experience I've had by far. Shame, as it's quite a good looking hospital, just full of troglodytes running the place.

Move to 2018 No bed for a 98 year old with a broken leg. Sent home in less than 24 hours. I suppose we will hear all about her pain was worth it because we saved the public purse $. Where were the TV cameras for that story? Less time and $ spent on reality TV and more time and $ on care needed.

2016 According to the nurses they don't have to follow doctor's instructions. Hope all the doctors know they are training for nothing. It is always comforting when the nurses tell you they can't do something because they are trying to save money. Oh well a Ministerial letter coming up.

First time going to the Gold Coast Hospital for a leg re-cast and it was the best experience! The staff and volunteers where amazing, super helpful and friendly and I didn’t have to wait long to be seen. The hospital itself was keep clean and tidy and the cafe/ eating area had lots of choices. I would definitely go back! Great service!! 10 Stars
